SPRAVATO (esketamine)
®
A different path forward for treatment resistant depression

If depression has remained overwhelming despite treatment, SPRAVATO® may offer another option. At Resilience Mental Health, we want patients and families to have clear, trustworthy information about available treatments and what to expect when exploring next steps in care.
What is SPRAVATO ?
®
SPRAVATO® is a prescription nasal spray made from esketamine. It is FDA approved for adults with treatment resistant depression, either alone or with an oral antidepressant, and for depressive symptoms in adults with major depressive disorder with acute suicidal ideation or behavior when used with an oral antidepressant.
How Does SPRAVATO work?
®
SPRAVATO® works differently from many traditional antidepressants by acting on the brain’s N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor system, which is thought to play a crucial role in mood regulation. Because of this different mechanism, it may be considered for adults who have not had enough improvement with more standard treatment approaches.
What to Expect During Treatment
SPRAVATO® is taken in a certified healthcare setting under medical supervision. It is not a medication patients take home. During treatment, the nasal spray is self-administered under provider guidance, and patients are monitored afterward for safety. At Resilience Mental Health, patients receiving SPRAVATO® are monitored in a private treatment room rather than a shared group setting, providing a quieter, more comfortable, and more individualized treatment experience.
Because SPRAVATO® can cause sedation, dissociation, respiratory effects, and temporary increases in blood pressure, patients must be monitored by a healthcare provider for at least two hours after each treatment session. Patients should also plan for someone to drive them home and should not drive or operate machinery until the next day after a restful sleep

Is SPRAVATO RIGHT FOR YOU?
SPRAVATO® may be considered for adults with treatment resistant depression who have not experienced adequate relief from other treatment approaches. A full psychiatric evaluation is needed to determine whether it is an appropriate and safe option based on symptoms, treatment history, medical history, and overall clinical needs.
